Terms of service
Version 1Effective September 26, 2026
1. What Par is
Par is an iPhone app for golf: it finds the courses around you, measures distances from where you are standing on a hole, keeps your card, and lets you play a round with other people and see their scores as they happen.
These terms cover the Par app and joinpar.app. By creating an account you agree to them. Par is made and provided by Tanay Schabus, Switzerland, who can be reached at help@joinpar.app.
Par is free. There is no subscription, no in app purchase and nothing to pay for. If that ever changes, the price and the terms will be shown before anything is charged, and it will be a new version of this document.
2. Your account
You sign in with Apple. We ask Apple for your email address and nothing else, not even your name, which is why the app asks you for a name itself. If you use Apple's private relay, that is the address we hold and everything works the same.
You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at help@joinpar.app if you think somebody else is using it.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Par, and old enough where you live to agree to these terms. Nothing in the app checks your age; this is a condition of use, not a gate.
3. Distances, maps and scorecards are aids
Every distance, map, scorecard and yardage in Par is an aid to play and can be wrong. Course layouts change, data goes stale, GPS drifts, and a phone in a pocket is not a rangefinder. Do not rely on Par for a rules decision, for an official handicap, or for anything where being wrong matters.
The handicap figure you enter is yours to maintain. Par does not calculate, issue or certify a handicap, and the strokes gained figures it shows are measured against your own previous rounds, not against any external benchmark or tour average.
Course information comes from OpenStreetMap and is used under the Open Database Licence. Attribution is shown wherever the data appears, and the method used to build the catalogue is published at joinpar.app/course-data.
4. What you put into Par
You keep whatever you create: your rounds, your scores, your reviews, your photographs and your profile. You give us permission to store it and to show it to the people the app says it will be shown to, which is what makes the feed, the leaderboards and a shared round work.
A course review and a course photograph are visible to other golfers who can see you. A scorecard is posted to your friends' feed when a round closes. A round you play with other people is visible to everybody in it. Hide my activity, in your profile, takes your rounds, shelf and posted cards out of other people's view.
Do not upload a photograph you do not have the right to share, a photograph of somebody who has not agreed to it, or anything unlawful. Do not use a name, username or picture that impersonates somebody else.
5. Other golfers
You can report a golfer from their profile for false scores, impersonation, an inappropriate profile or a fake account. Reports are read by a person. There is no automatic removal, and there is no message to say what was decided.
You can block anybody. Blocking ends whatever was between you, hides each of you from the other's search, feed, leaderboards, reviews and photographs, and refuses any further request. The other golfer is not told. You can unblock from your profile, under Social, which does not restore the friendship.
Reviews and photographs appear immediately and are not checked before they go up.
6. Fair use
Do not scrape Par, do not interfere with other golfers' rounds, do not try to break the parts of the service that decide who may see what, and do not reverse engineer the app beyond what the law where you live allows regardless of this sentence.
We may suspend or end an account that does any of those, or that is used to harm somebody.
7. Ending it
You can delete your account from the app, in your profile under Delete my account. It is immediate and it cannot be undone.
Your profile, preferences, bags, saved courses, friendships, blocks, likes, posted cards, achievements and notifications go with it. Two things stay on purpose: your seat in a round you played with other people, which remains with your name taken off it so the others keep the round they played, and any report filed about you, because a report is evidence.
We may change or stop offering Par. Where we can reasonably give notice, we will.
8. No warranty, and the limit of what we owe
Par is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available, accurate or uninterrupted.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be limited. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for a round, a score or a handicap that went wrong.
These terms are governed by Swiss law, and the Swiss courts have jurisdiction, without taking away any protection the law of your own country gives you as a consumer. If you live in the EU or the UK, you can still bring a claim where you live.
9. Changes, and getting in touch
A new version of these terms is published as a new version here, and the app asks you to accept it the next time you sign in. Every acceptance is recorded with its version and the date.
