Privacy policy
Version 1Effective September 26, 2026
1. Who holds your data, and the short version
Par is made and provided by Tanay Schabus, in Switzerland, who is the data controller. Questions, requests and complaints: help@joinpar.app, and they are answered by a person rather than a form.
The short version: Par has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third party SDK of any kind. Nothing about you is sold or shared for marketing. What the app stores is what you do in it, and you can delete all of it from inside the app.
2. What is stored, and why
Your account: the email address Apple gives us, and nothing else from Apple. We do not ask Apple for your name.
Your profile: the name and username you choose, a profile picture if you set one, your home course, the handicap you enter, and whether you have hidden your activity.
Your golf: every round, who was in it, the hole by hole scores, putts, fairways, greens, sand shots and penalties, your clubs, your saved courses, your achievements, and the distance unit you chose.
Your shots: when you track a shot, Par stores the coordinates where you took it, with the time, the club and the lie. This is the most precise location data in the app and it is stored on our servers, not only on your phone, so that a round opened on another device is the same round.
Your people: friend requests and friendships, who you have blocked, the cards you have liked, and the notifications written for you, which carry other golfers' names and course names as text.
Your contributions: course reviews and course photographs, with the course they belong to.
Your device: one Apple push token per install, so notifications can reach the right phone, and whether that install is a test build or a release one.
Your agreement: which version of the terms and of this policy you accepted, and when. This is kept as a record of consent and is not deleted while the account exists.
3. Permissions the app asks for
Location, while you are using the app. It is used to find the courses near you, to measure distances on the hole you are playing, and to move you on as you walk. Par never asks for background or always on location and has no background location capability. Precise location is read continuously only while a round is being played; the rest of the time it is coarse. Par accepts reduced accuracy if you grant it.
Camera, only to scan another golfer's QR code. The camera is configured to read QR codes and nothing else: no photograph, video or frame is captured or saved.
Photo library, only so you can choose a profile picture. Par never writes anything to your library.
Notifications, if you allow them, so a friend request or a round can reach you. You are asked at a moment when a notification would be about something you just did, not at launch.
4. Who else sees it
Supabase hosts the database, the authentication and the stored images, and processes them on our instructions. The project runs in Frankfurt, Germany (eu-central-1), so your data sits in the EU. Sending it there from Switzerland needs no further safeguard, because Switzerland recognises the EEA as providing adequate protection.
Apple handles Sign in with Apple and delivers push notifications. A push carries the notification's wording to Apple so it can be shown on your lock screen.
Open-Meteo provides the forecast on a course page. The request carries the course's own coordinates from our catalogue and nothing that identifies you, not even your position.
Maps are Apple's. Course information comes from OpenStreetMap and ships inside the app, so looking at a course sends nothing anywhere.
We will disclose data if the law genuinely requires it. We will not hand it over otherwise.
5. What other golfers see
Your name, username and picture can be seen by any signed in golfer who has your username or a link to you. Your rounds, achievements and posted cards are visible to your friends, unless you turn on Hide my activity.
A round is visible to everybody in it. A course review, a course photograph and a course leaderboard entry are visible to golfers who can see you.
A golfer you have blocked sees none of it, and you see none of theirs. Your profile reads as not found to them, which is deliberately the same answer as a username nobody holds.
6. How long it is kept
Until you delete your account. Nothing in Par expires on a timer today, and we would rather say that plainly than name a period we do not enforce.
Deleting your account removes your profile, preferences, alert settings, bags, saved courses, friendships, blocks, likes, posted cards, achievements, notifications, push tokens and your record of accepted terms, in one transaction. Your profile picture and your course photographs are deleted from storage at the same time.
Two things survive, and you should know exactly what they are. Your seat in a round played with other people stays, with your name removed, so that the other golfers keep a round they played in full. That seat still carries the hole scores and the shot coordinates recorded against it. And a report somebody filed about you stays, because a report is evidence about the person who filed it as much as about you.
If you want that orphaned seat and its shot coordinates removed as well, email help@joinpar.app and we will do it by hand.
7. Which law, and your rights
Par is run from Switzerland, so the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection applies to it. It is also offered to people in the EU and the UK, so the GDPR and the UK GDPR apply to them. Where the two differ, whichever gives you more is the one you get.
You can see and change your name, username, handicap, home course, units and picture in the app at any time, and you can delete your account yourself.
You have the right to a copy of your data, to have it corrected, to object to or restrict what is done with it, and to have it deleted. Par has no export screen yet, so ask at help@joinpar.app and a copy will be sent to you.
If you think something has gone wrong and we have not put it right, you can complain to a regulator: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, and in the EU or the UK your own national authority.
Location, camera, photo and notification permissions can be changed or withdrawn at any time in iOS Settings. Withdrawing location stops distances working; it does not delete anything already stored.
8. Children
Par is not meant for children under 13, and nothing in the app is directed at them. If you believe a child has an account, email help@joinpar.app and we will remove it.
9. Changes
A new version of this policy is published here as a new version, and the app asks you to accept it the next time you sign in. The version you accepted and the date are recorded.
